
Townsend PR's; Hinton Earns All-American at NJCAA Indoors
Lubbock, Texas – Shanaya Hinton and Raeya Townsend each recorded personal bests at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships this past weekend with Hinton earning a 3rd place finish, a spot on the podium and an All-American medal.
Townsend competed first in the High Jump Friday afternoon with the bar set at 1.57m, a height that eliminated seven women in the event. On Raeya's third attempt, she completed the jump and recorded a personal best. Townsend was unable to clear the next height (1.62m) along with six of her competitors. She finished 13th in the nation with a great deal of momentum headed into outdoor season.
Hinton entered the triple jump competition Saturday morning ranked 12th nationally. Included in the first flight of the event, Shanaya finished 1st with Top 9 competitors from both flights making the finals. After the second flight concluded, she was in 6th place and remained in that place until her final jump. With ANOTHER personal best jump, this time at 12.01m (39'5"), Shanaya moved into her final spot - 3rd place. With that, Hinton became Marion's first All-American in the triple jump and has already qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas thi May.
