Tigers Improve to 8-4 in ACCC Play
Marion, AL. – The start of Thursday night's home game against the Boll Weevils of Enterprise State CC did not start the way the Tigers envisioned with them falling behind early. Marin took their first lead, 18-15, with under 13 minutes to play before halftime on a three-pointer from Katayvon Jefferies. ESCC went on an offensive run and built a double-digit lead in the next five minutes.
A technical foul on Marion's coach at the 7:52 mark got the home team motivated and within three minutes pulled to within three points, 31-34, when Raylan Barrion connected on two free throws. A steal and layup by Darrin Thompson Jr. cut the deficit to one point and after a media timeout the Tigers took the lead off a Kamari Slaughter layup. MMI pushed the lead to eight points at halftime when Slaughter found Jacob Cooper for a corner three-pointer; Tigers up 48-40 at intermission.
Three minutes into the second half the Tiger built a double-digit lead and cruised to a final score of 108-86. Monday, February 17, Marion will travel to Andalusia for a rematch against the Saints of Lurleen B. Wallace CC.
Thompson led Marion with 24 points. Katayvon Jefferies added 23 points and Raylan Barrion dished out a team high seven assists with 18 points. Jacob Cooper and Kamari Slaughter each finished with a double-double; Copper had 11 points and 11 rebounds while Slaughter grabbed 10 rebounds with 16 points. Jaquavious Wallace once again provided quality minutes off the bench, scoring 16 points.
