Tigers Defeat Wildcats at Home
Marion, AL. – With the win last night against the Wildcats of Bishop State Community College, the MMI men's basketball team improved their overall record to 14-10, 9-6 in ACCC play. They will travel to Wadley, Alabama this Friday to take on Southern Union State CC for an ACCC North-South match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Bishop State scored on their first possession and held a slim lead, 2-6, when Quandre Burroughs hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to one point. After a Wildcat timeout, Anthony Bryant scored on back to back plays to give the Tigers a 9-6 advantage. Bishop State tied the game with under fifteen minutes remaining in the first half, but Marion went on a small offensive run. Baskets by Tyrone Wright, Marselis Jones, and Wright again brought the lead to double digits, 25-15. Another three-pointer by Jones and a floater inside the lane by sophomore point guard Myles McClain brought the Tigers' lead to thirteen. Marion took a ten-point lead (48-38) into intermission.
The second half started with MMI scoring at will and the Tigers extended the lead to seventeen, 55-38, when Bishop State called another timeout. After the break in action, the Tigers went on a two and a half minute scoring drought which McClain ended with another floater inside the lane. Wright scored on a mid-range jumper and the MMI lead once against extended to double digits, 59-46. Marion was able to extend the lead to 30 points with eight minutes left in regulation and cruised to the 92-74 victory.
Quandre Burroughs led MMI with 23 points. Anthony Bryant added 17 points with four rebounds and a team high seven assists. Tyrone Wright played solid minutes off the bench, grabbing a team high nine rebounds with 12 points. Also scoring for the Tigers was Isaiah Green (12), Myles McClain (9), Eli Elston (8), Marselis Jones (8) and Elijah Marsh (3).
