Tigers Improve to 8-3 after Home Win
Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers cruised to a 108-61-win last night over Tennessee Valley Prep Academy to improve their 2022-23 season record to 8-3.
Marion started the game on an 8-0 run and extended it to double digits, 14-2, off a three-pointer from Quandre Burroughs two minutes later. The Defenders would not get closer than 11 points in the first half after Tyrone Wright was assessed a technical foul on a dunk. Burroughs hit a mid-range jumper on MMI's next possession, and they cruised to a 46-29 lead at the half.
The second half saw the home team go on an extended run and with 15:19 on the clock built their lead to twenty, 57-37. Marion would empty the bench and cruise to the victory. With all ten MMI players making it into the scoring column, they were led by Anthony Bryant who finished with 22 points. Isaiah Green scored a season high 18 points off the bench. Burroughs added 15 points while Eli Elston and Elijah Marsh added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Marsh dished out a team high seven assists. Tyrone Wright came off the bench and grabbed a season high 17 rebounds with eight points. Sophomore point guard had another solid game with seven points, six rebounds and six assists. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers was Marselis Jones (7), Cameron Spain (3), and Aidan Driggers (2).
Since Friday's game against Piney Woods Prep School has been postponed, the Tigers will face Lurleen B. Wallace CC on Monday, January 9, with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off scheduled.
