Tigers Split Home DH with EMCC

Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers split the final two-game series against the Lions of East Mississippi CC Saturday afternoon. They will travel to Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday, February 4 for the final two games of their four-game series with Lawson State CC.

Game 1 MMI 3 EMCC 13

Marion struggled in game one of the doubleheader and scattered just three hits in the lopsided loss. Seth Frantz and Haldyn Williams each finished 1-for-2 at the plate with Frantz recording a team high two RBI. Riley Friend scored a run and went 1-for-3 for Marion. Scoring the other two runs for the Tigers were Hayden Markfort and William Keller.

Seeing action on the mound for MMI was Nicholas Blaszczak, Kaiden Wear, and Dalton Grace.

Game 2 MMI 10 EMCC 7

Game two started like game one as the Lions plated a run in the first inning, one more in the fourth inning and then two in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead.  The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Devin Howell led off with a four-pitch walk. Haldyn Williams earned a walk on a pitch clock violation and an infield error off the bat of Riley Friend had the bases loaded with no outs for the home squad. Another infield error off the bat of Hayden Markfort scored MMI's first run. William Keller was hit by a pitch, scoring another run. Francisco Ramirez hit a sac fly, allowing the third run to cross the plate. Seth Frantz singled; two runs scored.

With the game tied at five runs apiece, freshman Logan Ivey came to the mound to relieve starter Jeremiah Navarro. Ivey was relieved by Weston Braisted, who earned the win.

Down 6-5 after EMCC's plate appearance, the Tigers added three runs to take their first lead of the day. Brinson Carpenter singled to left field and Devin Howell earned a walk. Haldyn Williams' fielders' choice got Carpenter out at third base but a passed ball during Riley Friend's at-bat advanced both runners. Friend doubled to the center field fence, scoring both runs.

Braisted allowed a run in the top of the seventh inning but recorded his strikeout to end the game.
