Tigers Start Season 2-0

Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team won their opening doubleheader at home against Lawson State CC this afternoon. They will travel to Scooba, Mississippi this Thursday for a doubleheader against East Mississippi CC.

Game 1 MMI 5 LSCC 4

Nicholas Blaszczak earned the start for the Tigers and after giving up three runs in the first inning, settled down and kept the Cougars scoreless through five innings. Dalton Grace came to the mound in the sixth inning, and he was relieved by freshman Kaiden Wear who inherited the bases loaded.  Wear gave up just one run and the Tigers saw themselves down 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning.

William Keller walked to lead off MMI's last at-bat. Francisco Ramirez reached on an error and a balk by the LSCC pitcher advanced both runners.  Seth Frantz doubled to left centerfield to score Marion's first two runs of the day. Frantz advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Wesley Chappell reached on an error, scoring Frantz.  With one out Nathaniel Valles singled to left field and Chappell scored the tying run. Valles stole second base and Alex Bradford hit to right field, allowing Valles to cross the plate for the winning run.

Game 2 MMI 3 LSCC 0

Jeremiah Navarro took the mound for game two of the doubleheader and kept the Cougars scoreless until he was relieved by Dylan Lewkutz in the seventh inning.  Lewkutz inherited a runner at first, but he got the next three batters to record outs, giving the MMI Tigers a doubleheader sweep.

Marion scored three runs in the second inning when Nathaniel Valles led off the inning with a single to left field. Haldyn Williams walked, and Harrison McPherson singled with one out, scoring Valles. William Keller singled, scoring Williams. Francisco Ramirez doubled, scoring Keller.
