Women's Cross Country Competes in Falcon Classic

Montevallo, AL. – The Marion Military Institute women's cross country team competed in the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo Saturday morning to kick off the 2019 season.

Teams competing this year at the Classic were: Samford University, University of Montevallo, University of Alabama, Mississippi College, University of Alabama-Huntsville, Alabama State University, Spring Hill College, Florida A&M, Wallace State CC, University of West Georgia, University of West Alabama, Auburn University-Montgomery, Delta State University, Marion Military Institute, Martin Methodist, Miles College, Huntingdon College, Point University, Belhaven, and Jefferson State CC.

Freshman Amindy Mullen paced the Lady Tigers with a 23:56.26 finish in her first collegiate 5k race.  She was followed by first year runners Emilia Puszynski (24:17.27), Bridget Wheeless (25:56.19), Avery Griner (30:31.56), and Kalliauna Powers (32:37.95).

Head coach Chad Balentine saw some good progress from his team. "On the women's side, the ladies posted very good early season times, as most come from primarily track backgrounds and are not as accustomed to Cross Country," commented Balentine. "I look for huge improvements across the program over the next couple months as we adapt more to the training and the weather cools off later in the season.

The Lady Tigers finished the race in 15th place.  Marion will return to the course this Friday, September 13, in the Brickyard Invitational hosted by Georgia Military College.
