MMI Falls in Playoff Match in Women’s Tennis
Gardendale, AL—The Marion Military Institute women's tennis team fell just short in their bid to win the Alabama Community College Conference title on Wednesday afternoon at the G. William Noble Athletic Complex. Marion Military Institute and Wallace State Community College-Hanceville wound up tied with nine points apiece at the conference tournament, held at Sand Mountain Park, and played the championship match at the neutral site in Gardendale. Wallace State defeated MMI, 5-4, to win the championship. MMI finished in second place.
MMI started off strong with two doubles wins. Julia Kelly and Madelyn Dibble dropped two games in their 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, and Anna Waller and Eve Crossett, playing one of their strongest matches of the year, scored an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Julia Kelly moved her overall record to 20-0 with her masterful 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, and Anna Waller belted out her 20th win of the season, 6-0, 6-0, to remain undefeated as well.
