Lady Tigers Win Home and Away Matches to Start Season Strong in Women’s Tennis

The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers turned in two strong performance on Friday against the Lady Hawks of Huntingdon College and on Saturday against the Lady Warriors of East Central Community College.  The Lady Tigers picked up their first win of the young season at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center (6-3) and their second win at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex (8-1).

Montgomery, AL—The Lady Tigers dominated the first four singles flights against the Lady Hawks, winning those matches by a combined 48-6 score.  Ksenia Vasilyev (6-2, 6-0), Anna Waller (6-1, 6-0), Kitty Greenwalt (6-2, 6-0), and Kathyrn Risner (6-0, 6-1) all cruised to straight-set wins.  In doubles play, Waller and Greenwalt (8-1) and Vasilyev and Risner (8-5) scored points for MMI.

Marion, AL—The Lady Tigers started with a sweep of doubles play against the Lady Warriors, winning at No. 1 doubles (8-1), No. 2 doubles (8-0), and No. 3 doubles (8-6).  Anna Waller and Kitty Greenwalt defeated Natalia Beltran and Alejandra Vargas, 8-1, and Ksenia Vasilyev and Kathryn Risner blanked Kayla Baucum and Courtney Gill, 8-0.  Gianna Azzaro and Shandreika Crocker upset Courtney Gill and Laila Sisson, 8-6.  In singles action, Vasilyev knocked off Beltran, 6-2, 7-5, Waller won by forfeit, Greenwalt downed Ali Grace Walker, 6-2, 6-0, Risner double bageled Marla Graham, 6-0, 6-0, and Gianna Azzaro defeated Courtney Gill, 6-3, 6-2.

The Lady Tigers will now host the Lady Lions of Wallace State Community College-Hanceville on Friday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m.
