Singles Wins by Azzaro and Lewis Help Lady Tigers Defeat MUW Owls

Columbus, MS—Playing under the lights at Owl Tennis Stadium helped the Lady Tigers' tennis team turn the lights out on the Lady Owls of Mississippi University for Women.  Playing with the same number of players as the Lady Owls also helped the cause.  For the first time this season the Lady Tigers played with the same number of players as their opposition—four players versus four players.  The Lady Tigers split the two doubles matches and took three of the four singles matches to win their first match of the year, 4-2.

MMI's Ksenia Vasilyev and Gianna Azzaro put the first point on the scoreboard with their 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while MMI's No. 2 doubles team of Samika Lewis and MacKenzie Bailey lost (but narrowly) in a gallant effort, 6-8.

Vasilyev notched MMI's second point with an easy win at No. 1 singles.  Azzaro then defeated Laura Kate Inman, 7-5. 6-2, at No. 2 singles, and Lewis downed Emma Potter, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3 singles for MMI's final two points of the match.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Friday, April 5 when they visit East Central Community College in Decatur, MS.  The match has a 1:00 p.m. start time.
