MMI Sweeps Huntingdon College, 9-0, in Women’s Tennis

Montgomery, AL—The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Hawks of Huntingdon College, 9-0, in Thursday afternoon's tennis match at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center on the Huntingdon College campus.

In the closest match of the doubles contests, Alana Larcombe and Bridget Mayfield held off the Hawk duo of Kacey Stephens and Clayton Warning, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.  Paola Bou and Morgan Ingram at No. 1 doubles (8-3) and Makenzie Ralston and Jordan Berrios at No. 3 doubles (8-1) completed the doubles sweep.

In singles play, Larcombe (6-1, 6-1), Ingram (6-0, 6-1), Mayfield (6-0, 6-0), Ralston (6-2, 6-1) and Rebecca Lin (6-1, 6-1) won their matches in straight sets.

Jordan Berrios completed the six-match singles sweep with her 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 come-from-behind win.  After losing a close first set, Berrios gathered together her wits and her game and won the second set without allowing a game.  But she was not quite out of the woods yet, for her opponent took an impressive 5-1 lead in the super tiebreaker.  However, Berrios captured nine of the remaining 12 points played to win the match.

The Lady Tigers remain on the road to take on the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles in a 1:00 p.m. match on Friday, March 3.  The match will be played at the Northeast Park Tennis Center in Meridian, MS.
