Fedele Shines in 6-3 Loss to Stillman College

Tuscaloosa, AL—Stella Fedele, MMI's No. 1 singles player, turned out to be the lone bright spot in a long Tuesday afternoon for the Lady Tigers at the Stillman College Tennis Complex.  The Stillman Lady Tigers dusted the MMI Lady Tigers, 6-3.  Two of MMI's wins came by virtue of walkover wins at the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles slots.

Stella Fedele, however, more than held her own against Stillman's Viktoria Izakova.  Fedele pestered her Stillman foe with one well-placed and well-struck ball after another.  Fedele gave up but two games in the first set and was only warming up as she took the second set in even finer fashion, 6-0.

"Stella was incredibly impressive today," said MMI head coach Charles Wright.  "I was particularly struck by Stella's ability to force her opponent into numerous errors just from her aggressive baseline play.  Stella was absolutely flawless from the baseline.  If she would tweak her game just a tad, she could become a fine all-court player."

Stillman College rolled through the remaining singles matches, with Maria Andreeva, Estel Fernandez, Angela Corredor, and Nair Tolomeo picking up wins on courts 2 through 5.

The Lady Tigers will return to the road again for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles in Meridian, MS, on Friday, October 9.  The match will be held at the Northeast Park Tennis Center.
