MMI’s Carlee Conway Labeled “Sleeper” of the Naval Academy’s 15th-Ranked Recruiting Class

Annapolis, MD—Carlee Conway had a fabulous freshman year for the Marion Military Institute Lady Tiger tennis team in 2014-2015.  Conway kicked off the fall season by winning the 2014 Southern JUCO USTA/ITA Small College Regional Singles and Doubles Championships.  She then capped her historic freshman year by being named Most Valuable Player in the Alabama Community College Conference by overwhelming the opposition to claim the First Flight Singles and Doubles Championships in the spring of 2015.

Conway is one of six new players that comprise Navy's Class of 2019, which is ranked as the 15th-best NCAA Division I Mid-Major class.

Navy women's tennis head coach Keith Puryear thinks Conway can definitely make a strong contribution to his lineup this year.  "I think the sleeper of the class could be Carlee Conway, who had a great year at Marion Military last year.  I think a few of the freshmen will help in doubles for us as well, specifically Catalina and Carlee," Puryear said.

"Carlee Conway had an exceptional year for us last year," said MMI head tennis coach Charles Wright.  "I can envision her being in Navy's starting lineup—if not in singles, then most assuredly in doubles.  Her strong serve-and-volley game will separate her from the rest of the pack.  She's a winner."
