MMI Tennis Star Carlee Conway Fulfills Her Dream of Becoming a Naval Academy Midshipman

Marion, AL—Carlee Conway was on a mission when she arrived at Marion Military Institute for her first semester of college in August of 2014.  In fact, she had a one-sentence mission statement that encapsulated her vision, her dream:  "My goal coming into MMI was to succeed academically, physically, and morally so that I could achieve my goal of receiving an appointment to the United States Naval Academy."

That dream has now come true.  On Friday, April 17, 2015, Conway was officially notified by the United States Naval Academy of her appointment to Midshipman status.

"With the help of my teachers, coaches, and advisors here at Marion, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a Midshipman," an elated Conway said.

During her short time at MMI, Conway also participated on the Lady Tiger tennis team, creating quite a legacy for herself.

In only one year of play, Conway established herself as one of the all-time great Lady Tiger tennis players in the brief eight-year history of the program.  Her list of accomplishments is long and impressive:  2014 USTA/ITA Southern Regional JUCO Singles Champion, 2014 USTA/ITA Southern Regional JUCO Doubles Champion, Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) MVP, ACCC First-Flight Singles and First-Flight Doubles Champion, MMI's Women's Tennis MVP, and an unblemished singles (13-0) and doubles (12-0) record.

"Carlee has been a tremendous asset to the women's tennis program," head coach Charles Wright said.  "She is a great competitor, student, and person.  She is the type of student-athlete that we love to have here at MMI.  She contributes so much to the overall morale of the team by being such a positive and vibrant person.  I wish I could clone her."

On reflecting back on her MMI experience, Conway said, "I have met many great people here at MMI—friends and teachers—that have really helped me along the way and pushed me to exceed my limits.  I am very grateful for my time here at Marion Military Institute."

Mission accomplished, Midshipman Conway!  Congratulations!
