Conway and Cespedes Continue to Impress and Dominate in Singles and Doubles

Bay Minette, AL—MMI's Carlee Conway and Maria Cespedes continued their superlative play on Monday afternoon at the Bay Minette Municipal Tennis Courts, blasting their way to wins at the top two spots in singles and the No. 1 slot in doubles.

"We are fortunate to have players of the caliber of Conway and Cespedes on this year's team," said Coach Wright, "especially when we aren't fielding a complete team of at least six players and one of the other two players on this year's squad, Selah Cho, just picked up a racket in January.  Selah has been a delight to have on the team, and so has Shikiria Franklin.  The two of them are real troupers.  They try hard, and they are always pleasant and cheerful.  They are in a tough situation, but they just keep plugging away."

Conway produced what one spectator said was the greatest shot he has seen at the collegiate level of play, a backhand topspin lob that spiraled out of her opponent's outstretched reach, in a flawless 6-0, 6-0 performance.

Nearly as dominant on court 2 was the play of Maria Cespedes, who picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Faulkner State's Christian Early.

Conway and Cespedes rounded out MMI's scoring with an 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
