Conway and Cespedes Sweep Huntingdon College in Singles and Doubles Play

Montgomery, AL—Spearheaded by the superb play of freshman Carlee Conway and sophomore Maria Cespedes, the Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers won five of the nine eight-game pro sets played on a very cold afternoon in late February at the George S. Gibbs Tennis Center at Huntingdon College, sweeping singles play at No. 1 and No. 2 singles while also recording a win at No. 1 doubles.

MMI's Conway and Cespedes started the scoring off when they swooped down on the Lady Hawks' No. 1 doubles team of Hannah Still and Sarah Warren.  The MMI doubles duo posted an impressive 8-3 win.

Conway and Cespedes continued their blistering play into singles action.  After getting off to a rocky start at No. 1 singles, Conway pulled away midway through the pro set by reeling off the last four games to defeat Still, 8-3.  Equally impressive for the Lady Tigers was Maria Cespedes in the No. 2 singles slot.  She parlayed her piercing and penetrating ground strokes into an 8-2 win.

Conway and Cespedes took on two more Lady Hawk players and blanked them both, 8-0.

The Lady Tigers will square off against the Faulkner State Community College Lady Sun Chiefs on Monday, March 2.  First serves are set to fly at 1:00 p.m. at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex on the front lawn of the Marion Military Institute campus.
