Conway, Cespedes, and Hughley Spearhead Shorthanded Play

Meridian, MS—The Lady Tiger squad was outmanned seven players to four by the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at the Northeast Tennis Center.  Therefore, three Lady Tigers (Maria Cespedes, Kyla Hughley, and Shikiria Franklin) had to perform double duty and play two pro-sets of eight games each in singles play.

The Lady Tigers split the two doubles matches played, winning at No. 1 doubles behind the solid play of Carlee Conway and Maria Cespedes, 6-1, 6-1, and losing the No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, 6-0.

Carlee Conway, MMI's No. 1 singles player, played the only regular-scoring singles match of the afternoon, defeating Jennifer Smith, 6-1, 6-0.

MMI's No. 2 singles player, Maria Cespedes, downed Caroline Terry (8-2) and Alden Hartley (8-1).

MMI's Kyla Hughley played solidly in winning 8-1 and 8-1, while MMI's Shikiria Franklin lost the first of her two matches, 8-0, and the second, 8-6.

The Lady Tigers continue their scrimmage play against the Lady Tigers of Stillman College on Thursday, September 18.  Match play is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
