Tiger Wrestlers Place 12th in Nation; Trevor Parker Attains All-American Status

Kissimmee, FL—Trevor Parker (five wins) and Joe Adams (three wins) combined for eight match wins for the Marion Military Institute Tiger Wrestling team at the 2016 NCWA National Wrestling Championships, which were held recently at the Silver Spurs Arena and hosted by the University of Central Florida.  The Tiger squad posted 11 wins and 10 losses overall in the Division I classification and picked up 41 team points to finish 12th in the tournament.  With his five wins, Parker finished fifth in the 197-pound weight class and vaulted into All-American status.

Five of MMI's 11 match wins came via pin.  Adams (184 pounds) led the pin parade with two pins, followed by solo pins by Parker (197 pounds), BJ Thomas (174 pounds), and Durell Robinson (285 pounds).

"It's great at a national tournament to see that type of wrestling," said Jim Hazewinkel, MMI's head coach.

Parker posted a 5-2 tournament record to place 5th in the 197-pound weight class and garner All-American recognition.  Parker claimed victories over wrestlers from Williamson College of the Trades (2-0 in overtime), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (10-8), the University of Connecticut (6-5), Central Washington University (pin), and the Ohio State University Wrestling Club (5-1).  Parker's two losses came against the University of Central Florida (4-2) and the University of Houston-Downtown (15-7).

"Parker did a good job," said Hazewinkel.  "He became an All-American!"
