Wrestlers Place Sixth at NCWA National Duals

Dalton, GA. - The MMI wrestling team, seeded seventh, placed sixth out of twenty-two teams at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Duals this past weekend.  MMI was the only two-year college competing in this year's event.   

Liberty University took first place for the second year in a row as they transition into NCAA Division I status.  The Apprentice School was the 2015 runner-up, followed by Middle Tennessee State University, University of Central Florida, Grand Valley State University, and Marion Military Institute.  

In the first round, MMI defeated the University of South Florida 138-24 utilizing a new scoring system.  In round two Marion defeated the University of Texas-Arlington 31-24 under the old scoring system.  The Tigers were defeated by Middle Tennessee State 26-18 in the third round but turned around and defeated Wayne State University 33-20 to earn a place in the fifth place final match.  The Tigers lost to Grand Valley State University 41-14 to drop to sixth place.  With that finish, Marion earns 19 points toward their overall team score at the NCWA National Championships.  The NCWA National Championship Tournament will be held this year in Allen, Texas, March 12-14.

Marion will travel to Auburn University this Friday to participate in a tri-match.
