Lady Tigers Squeeze Out Two Wins Against Bishop State CC

Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers took the first two games of their four-game series against Bishop State Community College at home Wednesday afternoon. They will finish the series on Friday on the road with game one scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.

Game 1 MMI 9 BSCC 1 (6 innings)

MMI plated six runs in their first at-bat when Emily Mackin led off with an infield hit. Alexandra Erwin beat out a bunt and Karlee Pierson doubled to score the first run. Avary Lumpkin walked to load the bases for Krislin Estes. Estes walked to score Marion's second run. Katie Robbins hit into a fielder's choice, allowing another run to cross the plate. Addison Jennings doubled to plate two runs. Svannah Nabors doubled with two outs to score the sixth run.

Ashley Maddox, game one starter for the Lady Tigers, held Bishop State scoreless until the third inning when they hit a solo homerun.

The fourth inning saw Marion add two more runs as Mackin walked with one out. Karlee Pierson kept a hot bat and homered to collect two more RBI.

Freshman Gracyn Clifton relieved Maddox in the fifth inning and held the Wildcats from scoring in the sixth inning, where the Lady Tigers added their final run. Caroline Willis singled in a pinch-hit role and Jaqulyn Braswell re-entered to run the bases. She advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and then tagged up on a fly ball by Nabors. With one out Mackin hit a ball to left field and Braswell tagged up from third safely.

Game 2 MMI 6 BSCC 5

MMI scored in their first at-bat, taking a 2-0 lead. Emily Mackin walked and stole second. Alexandra Erwin singled to right field and stole second on Bishop State's next pitch. Karlee Pierson singled up the middle, allowing Mackin and Erwin to score.

Bishop State tied the game at 2-2 in the top half of the second inning. Jaylee Crow, sophomore lefthanded pitcher came in to relieve freshman starter Michaela Otts

Both teams remained scoreless until the Wildcats added three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Freshman Maia Harris relieved Tayor Bailey from the circle and the Tigers saw themselves behind for the first time in the game. 

After Harris gave up a lead-off single in the top of the seventh inning, she got two fly balls and a 5-3 putout to give the Lady Tigers a chance to get back into the game in their last turn at the plate.

Jaqulyn Braswell singled and Savannah Nabors hit into a fielder's choice to record the first out. Emily Mackin earned a walk and Erwin reached on an error, scoring one run. With runners on first and third, Pierson singled to center field, but an error allowed two runs to cross the plate; Pierson advanced to third base. Avary Lumpkin walked to put runners once again on first and third with one out. Krislin Estes laid down a bunt and Pierson scored the winning run.
