Lady Tigers Back in the Win Column

Marion, AL. – After dropping a doubleheader on the road against #11 Chattanooga State CC, the Lady Tigers softball team rebounded with two more wins, defeating Meridian Community College twice this afternoon in front of a large home crowd. They are travelling to Oxford, Alabama Saturday, February 24th to participate in the JUCO Extravaganza. Marion will face Blinn College at 10:00 a.m. and Wabash Valley at 12:00 p.m.

Freshman Maia Harris earned the start for game one and worked into the fourth inning when sophomore Jaylee Crow came in in relief. Crow worked the final 3.1 innings.

MCC scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, but MMI added two runs in their turn at the plate and took the 2-1 lead. Katie Robbins singled up the middle with two outs and Caroline Willis, the Tiger's starting catcher, blasted a homerun off their batting cage.

Meridian tied the score in the fourth inning, but the Lady Tigers answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning. Krislin Estes was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. With two outs, Jaqulyn Braswell doubled down the third base line, scoring Estes.

The Lady Eagles added a run in the fifth inning but once again the home team added a run to keep their lead. Karlee Pierson doubled to right centerfield and tagged on a fly ball to right field. Krislin Estes laid down a bunt, scoring Pierson.

Freshman Taylor Bailey worked all seven innings for the Lady Tigers in the circle to gain game two victory. Marion scored in their first at-bat after Emily Mackin led off with a triple over the left fielder's head. After two infield outs, Avary Lumpkin singled to score Mackin.

MMI added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning when Savannah Nabors singled past the shortstop. Alexandra Erwin bunted for a hit and Karlee Pierson followed with a single; an outfield error allowed Nabors to score, and Erwin and Pierson moved up a base. With a new pitcher in the circle Lumpkin hit a sac fly, scoring Erwin; Pierson moved to third base. Krislin Estes singled up the middle, plating Pierson.

The fourth inning saw the Lady Eagles score their lone run. Marion added their fifth run in the bottom half of the sixth inning when Katelyn Rhodes led off with a single to left field. Savannah Nabors sacrificed her to second and a single off the bat of Emily Mackin scored Rhodes.
