Lady Tigers Rebound with Two Wins at Shelton State

Tuscaloosa, AL. – After dropping their first doubleheader at Jones County Junior College Tuesday, the Lady Tigers rebounded with a doubleheader sweep at Shelton State Community College Saturday afternoon. They will travel to Chattanooga State CC Tuesday, February 20, for a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 1:00 p.m.

Game 1 MMI 8 SSCC 5 (8 innings)

The Lady Bucs of Shelton State took a 5-1 lead after two innings before MMI added a run in the fifth inning and two in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. The Lady Tigers scored three in the top of the eighth inning behind a homerun by Alexandra Erwin to take game one. Jaylee Crow earned the win after pitching the last two innings for Marion. She gave up one hit, and no runs with two strikeouts. Ashely Maddox took the circle to start the game and was relieved after on inning by Gracyn Clifton who was relieved by Maia Harris.

Alexandra Erwin went 4-for5 at the plate to pace the Tigers' offense. She blasted two homeruns, recorded four RBI, and scored three runs. Karlee Pierson and Avary Lumpkin each finished with three hits; Pierson added a homerun and a double with an RBI and two runs scored.

Also collecting hits for MMI was Jayden Kendrick (1-for-4, RBI) and Addison Jennings (1-for-3, BB)

Game 2: MMI 9 SSCC 4

After SSCC scored in their first at-bat, the Lady Tigers added two runs in the second inning to take the early lead. The Lady Bucs added two runs in the third inning and another one in the fifth, but Marion scored one in the third, four in the fourth and one in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Jaylee Crow started for MMI in the circle and after three innings of work was relieved by Michaela Otts who earned the win. Taylor Bailey also saw action in the final two innings of the game, giving up no runs or hits while walking two and striking out one.

Alexandra Erwin, Karlee Pierson, and Avary Lumpkin had three hits apiece with Pierson and Lumpkin each blasting a homerun. Jaqulyn Braswell followed with a homerun for her one hit while adding two RBI.

Krislin Estes (1-for-2, R, 2BB), Addison Jennings (1-for-4, 2B), and Catey Thomas (1-for-2, RBI) also recorded hits for the Lady Tigers, now 10-2 on the season.
