Softball Earns Another Road DH Sweep

Wadley, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers softball team improved to 4-0 after defeating the Bisons of Southern Union State Community College twice Saturday afternoon. Marion will travel to Meridian Community College (Meridian, MS) for another road doubleheader Tuesday, February 6; game one starts at 1:00 p.m.

Marion scored a run in the third inning and two more in the fifth and sixth innings before closing out the seventh inning with another run.

Gracyn Clifton started in the circle and worked 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit to the Bisons. Ashley Maddox threw three innings in relief, earning her second win of the season. She gave up five hits, one run and a walk while striking out three batters. Jaylee Crow recorded her third save, striking out two batters in 1.1 innings.

Emily Mackin, MMI's leadoff batter, went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases; she also scored three runs. Alexandra Erwin added a double on one of her two hits while scoring a run and finishing with two RBI.

Also getting hits for Marion was Karlee Pierson (1-for-4, 1RBI), Katie Robbins (1-for-3), Katelyn Rhodes (1-for-2, 1R, 1BB, 1RBI) and Jaqulyn Braswell (1-for-3)

Game 2 MMI 5 SUSCC 3

Southern Union took a 3-1 lead after four innings in the second game of the doubleheader, but the Lady Tigers added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take game two and the doubleheader sweep.

Alexandra Erwin went 4-for-4 with a stolen base, an RBI and two runs scored. Karlee Pierson had three hits in four plate appearances with a triple and an RBI while scoring a run. Katelyn Rhodes recorded a double in one of her two hits with an RBI for MMI.

Also getting hits for Marion was Katie Robbins (1-for-3, 1RBI), Jaqulyn Braswell (1-for-3, 1R), and Savannah Nabors (1-for-2, 2B)

Maia Harris earned her first win after relieving freshman starter Taylor Bailey. Bailey gave up four hits and two runs in three innings with five strikeouts. Harris gave up a hit and a run; none earned. Jaylee Crow once again closed out the win, giving her four saves in four attempts this year. She struck out three batters and gave up just one hit in 1.1 innings.
