Lady Tigers Earn DH Sweep to Start 2024 Season

Muscle Shoals, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers earned a doubleheader sweep to start the 2024 season, taking two games on the road at Northwest Shoals Community College. They are scheduled to travel to Wadley, Alabama this Saturday for another road doubleheader, this time against Southern Union State CC.

Game 1 MMI 5 NWS 4

With MMI up 5-0 the Patriots of Northwest Shoals plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman Gracyn Clifton earned the start in the circle for Marion and in three innings, gave up just two hits. Sophomore Ashley Maddox earned the win, working 3.2 innings in relief. She gave up five hits, four runs (none earned) with a walk and strikeouts. Sophomore Jaylee Crow earned her first save of the season giving up two hits and no runs in one-third inning.

Sophomore shortstop Karlee Pierson led the Lady Tigers at the plate with three hits, one a triple, in four plate appearances, scoring two runs with an RBI three stolen bases. Avary Lumpkin hit a two-run homerun in her first plate appearance. Emily Mackin went 1-for-3 in the leadoff position with a walk, one run scored and a stolen base.

Also getting hits for MMI were Alexandra Erwin (1-for-4, a triple, and one run scored) and Katelyn Rhodes (1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base).

Game 2 MMI 5 NWS 1

Michaela Otts earned the win for Marion in game two after working 2.1 innings in relief of starter Taylor Bailey. Jaylee Crow earned her second save of the day, giving up a walk with two strikeouts.

Emily Mackin went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Alexandra Erwin, Karlee Pierson, Krislin Estes, Caroline Willis, and Katelyn Rhodes each got a hit in the game two victory.
