Lady Tigers Walk-Off for Another DH Sweep

Marion, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at home against the Saints from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Monday afternoon, winning game one 8-0 and game two 5-4.

Game One: MMI 8 LBW 0 (6 innings)

Kamryn Murdock, Marion's freshman hurler, earned another win in the circle in a shortened six inning contest.  Murdock allowed seven hits, no runs, and no walks with two strikeouts.

Marion plated two runs in their first at-bat when leadoff batter Bailie Seales got a base hit.  Nichole Martinez sacrificed her to second and Maris Stinchcomb blasted a double to score Seales.  Madison Bubel brought in Stinchcomb with a base hit.

After being held scoreless in the second inning, Marion added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Seales recorded her second hit of the day with one out.  Martinez followed with a hit and Seales went to third; Martinez moved to second on the throw to third.  Bubel doubled with two outs and MMI's first baseman recorded two more RBI.

The Lady Tigers were held scoreless again in the fourth and fifth innings before ending the game in the bottom of the sixth.  Brianna Ashcraft started the inning with a walk and Hope Owens sacrificed her to second.  Morgan Dennis brought in Ashcraft with a hit.  Seales was safe at first on an error and Martinez walked to load the bases.  Stinchcomb walked to add a run and Alexis Paredes' base hit brought in the final run for Marion.

Game two: MMI 5 LBW 4

The Saints from LBW took a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third inning with MMI's Haley Horton throwing in the circle.  Marion was able to cut the lead to 3-2 after four innings of play.  Alexis Paredes earned a one out walk to start the rally.  Madison Bubel followed with another walk and a double off the bat of third baseman Hope Owens scored the Lady Tigers' first two runs.

LBW added a run in the fifth inning to give them a two-run advantage.  MMI was held scoreless in their next two at-bats to set up another late game comeback.  In the seventh inning and down two runs, MMI started a rally with one out.  Nichole Martinez earned a walk.  Maris Stinchcomb got a hit and Brianna Ashcraft laid down a bunt to score one run; Ashcraft was safe at first on a throwing error.  Alexis Paredes got her first hit of the game to bring in the tying run.  Hope Owens delivered in Marion's next at-bat to give the Lady Tigers another come from behind victory, 5-4.

Horton pitched a complete game for her third win of the season.  In seven innings she gave up seven hits, four runs (one earned) and one walk while striking out three batters.
