Another Walk-Off Win for Softball

Marion, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers softball team earned another doubleheader sweep defeating East Central Community College by scores of 7-3 and 8-7.

Game One:  MMI 7 ECCC 3

Freshman Kamryn Murdock started game one in the circle for the Lady Tigers with Hope Cole pitching in relief, earning her first win of the spring.   Bailee Butler hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Marion a 4-1 lead.  MMI added two more runs in the sixth inning before the Warriors were only able to manufacture two runs in the top of the seventh inning, giving the home team a 7-3 victory.

Game Two: MMI 8 ECCC 7

For the second time this week, the Lady Tigers completed a DH sweep in dramatic fashion to give freshman Katelyn Holcombe her first win of the spring season.  MMI scored three runs in the first inning thanks to a double off the bat of Maris Stinchcomb.  They added another run in the fourth inning before the Warriors added three runs of their own in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3.  ECCC tied the game, 5-5, in the top of the sixth inning and took their first lead of the day, 7-5, in their last at-bat; top of the seventh inning.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning freshman Bailie Seales blasted a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 7-7.  Nichole Martinez, Tuesday's walk-ff hero, earned a walk to keep the Lady Tigers' hope alive for another late game comeback.  With Morgan Dennis entering the game to run for Martinez, Alexis Paredes hit a deep fly ball to center field, allowing Dennis to score from first base and secure the win.
