Lady Tigers Earn Split on Reunion Day

Marion, AL – With a group of former Lady Tigers in attendance for Saturday afternoon's doubleheader versus Coastal Alabama CC-East, the current Lady Tigers earned a split to start the season 1-1.

Game 1 – MMI 11 Coa-East 10

Sophomore Taylor Watson earned her first collegiate win as freshman Katelyn Holcombe earned the start in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.  Holcombe worked three innings. giving up four hits, six runs (two earned), and one walk while striking out four batters.  Watson gave up four hits and two runs in three innings. Freshman Hope Cole also worked an inning in relief for MMI.  

The War Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the third inning and added three more runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-2 advantage.  Both teams scored twice in the fifth inning with Coastal-East having a 10-4 lead into the Lady Tigers' last at-bat.  Bailie Seales came to bat with Marion down 7-10 and blasted a three run homerun to tie the game at 10 runs apiece.  Nichole Martinez came to the plate next and connected for a homerun of her own to left field to give Marion the 11-10 win.  Martinez finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored while Seales went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Maris Stinchcomb went 2-for-4 from the DP position with three RBI and a homerun.  Madison Bubel finished with one hit in one official at-bat with a double, a walk and two runs scored.  Bailee Butler and Alexis Paredes also recorded hits in the win.

Game 2 – MMI 4 Coa-East 10

MMI crossed the plate first in the bottom of the first inning but the War Hawks plated four runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to take an early lead.  MMI added three more runs in the fifth inning to cut into the lead but the War Hawks added another run in the sixth and with darkness approaching Marion ran out of time to make another dramatic comeback.

Freshman Kamryn Murdock took the loss after working four innings from the circle in her first start.  After throwing four innings, she gave up two hits, four runs, and three walks with two strikeouts.  Haley Horton and Mackenzie Calhoun also saw action in relief for the Lady Tigers.

Bailie Seales, Nichole Martinez, Maris Stinchcomb, Alexis Paredes, and Hope Owens all collected hits for Marion.

MMI will travel to Scooba, Mississippi Tuesday for a doubleheader at East Mississippi CC.
