Softball Takes Four Game Win Streak into Final Week

The MMI Lady Tigers' softball team is riding a four game win streak into the final week of the regular season.  Marion travelled to Bevill State CC last week and came away with their first two wins of the week.  In game one, Marion outlasted the home squad 5-4 with sophomore hurler, Lexi McCray, earning the win; Alex Reed gaining a save.  Kylie Bolton paced the Tigers at the plate with three hits in four at-bats.  She scored twice and had an RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb and Madison Bubel each had two hits with an RBI.  Edgecomb blasted a homerun, scored twice and stole a base.  Braedyn Ward and Kameron Hunt also had hits in the win.

In game two at BSCC, MMI took an early lead and never looked back.  The visitors from Marion took an 8-5 victory with Alex Reed earning the win, pitching a complete game.  Morgan Gaither finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with a double, two runs scored, four RBI, and a stolen base.  Whitney Edgecomb comtinued her hot bat with two hits in four plate appearnaces.  She also recorded two RBI and a stolen base.  Braedyn Ward went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Kameron Hunt and Morgan Dennis also collected hits for Marion.

The third and fourth victories of the week came at home against the Lady Parsons of Snead State Community College.  In the first game, Marion jumped out to a 4-0 lead in their first at-bat and held on to a 4-1 victory.  Madison Bubel, Jaina Walden, Morgan Gaither, Whitney Edgecomb, and Anna Claire Gresham all had hits for MMI with Lexi McCray earning the win from the circle.

Game two saw Alex Reed once again earn a complete game victory, allowing just two runs while her teammates plated seven runs.  Taylor Mitchell, a sophomore outfielder from Wetumpka, went 3-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Tigers' offense.  Madison Bubel, Marion's leadoff hitter, went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.  Jaina Walden had two hits with two RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb, Morgan Gaither, Kylie Bolton, Braedyn Ward, and Kameron Hunt also got into the hit column for MMI.

The Lady Tigers will hit the road Tuesday for three games at Wallace State CC. Game one of that day will be a make-up game from an earlier series.  The team will return home Thursday for the final game of the 2019 regular season as they host the Lady Bucs of Shelton State CC.
