Softball Finishes 5-1 Last Week

The MMI Lady Tigers softball team earned two wins against Lurleen B. Wallace CC and Coastal Alabama-East CC before earning a split at Enterprise State CC to finish last week 5-1.

Tuesday's doubleheader versus LBW:

Game 1 MMI 8  LBW 7

MMI took a 5-0 lead after the first inning and added another run in the third inning taking an early lead in the first game at home Tuesday afternoon.  The Lady Saints plated one run in the fifth and six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-6 lead.  Marion scored twice in their final at-bat to take the one-run victory.  Alex Reed earned the win for MMI after pitching in relief of starter Lexi McCray

Morgan Gaither went 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored.  Madison Bubel also had two hits in three at-bats with a homerun.  Kameron Hunt finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Also collecting hits for MMI were Whitney Edgecomb, Kylie Bolton, and Braedyn Ward.

Game 2 MMI 8 LBW 0

Alex Reed earned her second win of the day with a five inning, two-hit shutout.  The Shelby, Alabama sophomore allowed two hits and struck out five batters.  Morgan Gaither led the hitting attack, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.  The sophomore short stop from Brookwood, Alabama also scored three runs.  Dalton Merrill and Whitney Edgecomb each went 2-for-3.  Edgecomb scored twice and had two stolen bases while Merrill added three RBI.  Also generating hits for the Lady Tigers were Kameron Hunt, Madison Bubel, and Jaina Walden.

Thursday's doubleheader vs. Coastal Alabama-East

Game 1 MMI 7 Coastal-East 1

Madison Bubel went 2-for-2 with two doubles to lead the Lady Tigers at the plate in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.  She scored twice and recorded three RBI.  Dalton Merrill had two hits in four at-bats with a double and two RBI.  Alex Reed, Kameron Hunt, and Morgan Gaither also had hits in the victory.

Lexi McCray pitched a complete game giving up one run, three hits and one walk while striking out six batters.

Game 2 MMI 8 Coastal-East 1

Alex Reed gave up one run and four hits to earn the win for Marion in game two of Thursday's doubleheader.  Jaina walden went 3-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored.  Anna Claire Greshan added two hits in three at-bats and crossed the plate twice.  Madison Bubel and Morgan Gaither added two hits apiece.  Lexi McCray started the scoring rally for the Lady Tigers with a pinch hit three-run homerun to left field.  Whitney Edgecomb, Dalton Merrill, Braedyn Ward, Kylie Bolton, and Lexi McCray also had hits in the win.

Saturday's doubleheader at Enterprise State CC

Game 1 MMI 9 ESCC 1

Jaina Walden, Dalton Merrill, Morgan Gaither, and Madison Bubel led the scoring attack for Marion in game one of Saturday's doubleheader; each going 2-for-3 at the plate.  Walden had a double and a triple with two RBI and one run scored.  Gaither blasted a homerun, scored twice, stole a base and finished with four RBI.  Bubel added a double, an RBI and scored once while Merrill also scored a run and had an RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb and Kylie Bolton added hits in the win.

Sophomore Lexi McCray earned her ninth win of the spring.  The Brookwood, Alabama native allowed three hits, three walks and one run while striking out five batters.

Game 2 MMI 1 ESCC 5

MMI snapped their nine-game win streak in game two of their doubleheader at ESCC.  The Lady Boll Weevils scored five runs (one earned) on eight hits while the Lady Tigers could only manufacture one run on six hits.  Dalton Merrill went 2-for-2 with a walk.  Kylie Bolton added two hits in three at-bats with a double.  Jaina Walden recorded the team's only RBI, bringin Morgan Gaither across the plate. 

MMI will travel Tuesday and Wednesday this week to face Wallace-Dothan and LBW for two doubleheaders before starting ACCC north play Saturday at Shelton State Community College.
