Softball Goes 1-1 Friday in Fultondale

Fultondale, AL. - With the Coastal Alabama CC Invitational in Atmore cancelled, head coach Jeff Benson had to scramble around for games this past weekend.  Friday the Lady Tigers travelled to Fultondale, Alabama for two games against Lansing Community College and East Central Community College. 

Game 1: MMI 3 Lansing CC 6

MMI scattered six hits in the loss to Lansing CC with Whitney Edgecomb, Alyssa Carrizales, Morgan Gaither, Madison Bubel, Dalton Merrill, and Kameron Hunt each collecting one.  Freshman hurler Taylor Watson took the loss.  She gave up 9 hits and 6 runs (5 earned) in five innings of work.  Alex Reed worked a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Game 2: MMI 7 East Central CC 1

The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first inning and then added two runs in the second with two more in the third to take a commanding 7-0 lead.  ECCC added a run in the bottom of the third inning.

Morgan Gaither, Kylie Bolton, and Braedtn Ward each had two hits to lead Marion at the plate.  Gaither hit a homerun, scored twice and recorded two RBI.  Bolton added three RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb scored twice and hit a homerun, finishing 1-for-4.  Kameron Hunt had a hit in two plate appearances with one run scored.  Dalton Merril had a double and scored a run.

Lexi McCray pitched five innings for MMI and earned the win.  She gave up five hits, one run, and three walks while striking out five batters.  Alex Reed saw action in relief, striking out four batters in two innings of work.
