Softball Earns a DH Sweep at Coastal-East

Brewton, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers evened their record to 5-5 after defeating the Lady Warhawks from Coastal Alabama CC-East in a doubleheader yesterday afternoon.

Game 1: MMI 11 Coastal Alabama CC-East 6

The Lady Warhawks took the first lead of game one when they scored a run in the third inning.  Marion rallied with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning before Coastal-East added four more during their at-bat.  The Lady Tigers' bats came alive in the fifth inning as they plated six runs to take the lead.  They added two more runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to take game one of the doubleheader by a score of 11-6.

Sophomore Anna Claire Gresham earned her first win of the spring season as she worked 3.2 innings in relief of starter Alex Reed.  "AC" allowed four hits, one run and one walk while striking out two batters.

Morgan Gaither and Kylie Bolton led the offensive attack for MMI with three hits apiece in four plate appearances.  Gaither had a double, two RBI, a stolen base, and recorded two RBI while Bolton scored twice, had three doubles and two RBI.  Madison Bubel went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Whitney Edgecomb added two hits in five at-bats for the Lady Tigers with one RBI.  Jasmine Epperson also had two hits in two plate appearances.  She scored a run and recorded an RBI.

Also getting hits for Marion in game one were Alyssa Carrizales, Dalton Merrill, and Jaina Walden.

Game 2: MMI 3 Coastal Alabama CC-East 0

Sophomore Lexi McCray pitched a seven inning shutout in game two of the doubleheader, earning her second win of the spring.  She allowed three hits and three base on balls while striking out seven Warhawk batters.

Dalton Merrill went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and one run scored.  Whitney Edgecomb also had two hits with two RBI.  Jaina Walden scored a run, had an RBI and one hit in three plate appearances.  Morgan Gaither and Braedyn Ward also had hits for the Lady Tigers.

MMI will host Itawamba Community College Saturday, February 16 for a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
