Softball Splits Last Two Doubleheaders

The Lady Tigers softball team has split their last two doubleheaders against Bevill State CC and Judson College, dropping their record to 18-22 overall; 4-6 in the ACCC North.

Marion defeated the Bevill State CC Bears in game one of their doubleheader, 8-1, before dropping game two, 4-6.  In the win, Marion was led by Morgan Gaither and Lexi McCray as each collected two hits.  McCray earned the win in the circle, working all seven innings.  She gave up five hits, one run, and three walks while striking out 10 batters.  Alex Reed, Jaina Walden, Braedyn Ward, Whitney Edgecomb, and Anna Claire Gresham also collected hits for MMI.

Alex Reed took the loss in game two against Bevill State.  She gave up five hits, four runs (one earned), two walks while striking out four batters.  Bryndi-Alyn Ward saw action in relief.  In two innings, Ward gave up three hits and two runs (one earned).  Marion hitters scattered five hits in the loss with Whitney Edgecomb finishing with two in four at-bats.  She also scored twice.  Morgan Gaither, Anna Claire Gresham, and Dalton Merrill each had a hit in the loss.

Against Judson College, the MMI bats came alive in a 9-0 victory in game one of Friday afternoon's doubleheader.  Lexi McCray earned another win on the mound and was relieved by Anna Claire Gresham after five innings of work.  Dalton Merrill finished with three hits in four at-bats.  She scored one run and recorded an RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb, Danielle Phillips, Lexi McCray, and Braedyn Ward all recorded two hits apiece.

As the bats went silent in game two, so did the Lady Tigers as they dropped a 5-2 decision.  Lexi McCray was the only Marion hitter with multiple hits.  She went two-for-three with a run scored.  Getting solo hits for MMI were Morgan Gaither, Dalton Merrill, and Jaina Walden
