Softball Wins Three of Four Games at Shelton State Tournament

After dropping the first game of the Shelton State CC Tournament to Holmes CC the Lady Tigers rallied for three straight wins, defeating Coastal Alabama-East twice and Roane State once.

MMI 9 Coastal Alabama- East 0

Morgan Gaither led Marion's offensive attack with two hits in four at-bats, including a double and a homerun.  She recorded two RBI, scored twice and stole a base.  Anna Claire Gresham and Alex Reed both went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run scored and an RBI.  Whitney Edgecomb, Lexi McCray and Jasmine Epperson each had hits for the Lady Tigers.  Alex Reed got the win in the circle.  She threw seven innings giving up two hits, no runs, and two walks while striking out two WarHawk batters.

MMI 7 Roane State 4

Marion needed extra innings to get their second win of the day.  Dalton Merrill blasted a three run homerun in the ninth inning to give the Lady Tigers a 7-4 win.  She finished with two hits in four at-bats with three RBI.  Morgan Gaither had two hits with two runs scored and an RBI.  Lexi McCray also finished with two hits and an RBI.  Also getting hits for Marion were Whitney Edgecomb, Anna Claire Gresham, and Jaina Walden.  Lexi McCray worked all nine innings in the circle, earning the win.  She surrendered eight hits and three walks while striking our eight batters.

MMI 9 Coastal Alabama-East 0

Alex Reed earned her second win of the weekend, giving up two hits and two walks with one strikeout.  Taylor Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.  Jaina Walden finished with two hits in as many at-bats.  She recorded an RBI and scored once.  Anna Claire Gresham, Morgan Gaither, Whitney Edgecomb, Yasmin Cottingham, and Dalton Merrill all got hits for MMI.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Louisiana this weekend for two doubleheaders.  They will face LSU-Eunice Friday and Baton Rouge CC Saturday.
