Bats Come Alive in DH Sweep at EMCC

Eight homeruns in two games helped the MMI Lady Tigers sweep a doubleheader at East Mississippi Community College yesterday aftenoon. 

In game one Morgan Gaither blasted two homeruns and Taylor Mitchell added another one as Marion took the easy 12-0 victory in five innings. Gaither finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI while Mitchell added three RBI of her own.  Yasmin Cottingham added two hits including a double, as teammates Anna Claire Gresham, Lexi McCray, Whitney Edgecomb, and Braedyn Ward all had hits for Marion.  Sophomore Bryndi-Alyn Ward pitched a five inning shutout for her second win this spring.  She allowed three hits and struck out three EMCC batters. 

Game two saw freshman Alex Reed take to the circle.  She worked seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.  Yasmin Cottingham and Whitney Edgecomb led MMI's offense, each blasting two homeruns.  Cottingham scored three runs with four RBI and Edgecomb scored twice with two RBI.  Anna Claire Gresham also connected for a homerun to give the visitors eight total for the day.  She also scored three times, was walked once and recorded three RBI.  Morgan Gaither continued her hot bat, finishing 3-for4 with a walk and two runs scored.  Jaina Walden and Jasmine Epperson each had two hits for MMI, now 5-3 on the season.  Also registering hits were Taylor Mitchell and Lexi McCray.
