Softball Splits with EMCC

Marion, AL. - The MMI softball team earned a split with East Mississippi Community College Tuesday afternoon at home.  After dropping the first game 8-0 the Lady Tigers rebounded with a 5-3 victory in game two.  This split evens their record at 3-3.

Game one highlights were pretty slim for the home squad as they collected only two hits.  Alex Reed started on the mound for Marion and took the loss.  EMCC put together a five-run third inning and added three more in the fifth to end the game early.

Marions' bats came alive in game two of the doubleheader as they tacked on two runs in the first inning.  Jaina Walden led off with a double and was sacrificed to second by Anna Claire GreshamMorgan Gaither doubled to score Walden and was moved to third off a base hit by Lexi McCrayYasmin Cottingham laid down a bunt to score Gaither. 

The score remained 2-0 until the Lady Tigers added three more runs in the fourth inning.  Alex Reed led the inning with a base hit.  Braedyn Ward bunted Reed over and was called safe on an error.  Taylor Mitchell sacrificed to move the runners to second and third.  Walden hit her second double of the game to plate two more runs.  A base hit off the bat of Gresham scored Walden.

East Mississippi added a run in the sixth inning and then tacked on two more in the seventh inning before Lexi McCray finished the game with a strikeout.  McCray threw a complete game, earning her first win of the season.

Marion is scheduled to travel to EMCC this Thursday for another doubleheader.  Game one is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
