Lady Tigers Earn DH Sweep on Parent's Weekend

Marion, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers swept a doubleheader from Judson College Friday afternoon during Marions' Parent's Weekend.

Game One - Freshman Alex Reed earned the win in game one of the afternoon doubleheader, throwing a complete seven-inning game. Freshman Morgan Gaither scored Marion's first run in the bottom of the first inning.  After earning first base with a basehit, she was moved to third by a Lexi McCray single.  McCray stole second and the throw down to second allowed Gaither to score.  Judson plated two runs in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.  Marion tied the game in the third inning when Alexandrea Rios started the inning with a stand-up triple.  Whitney Edgecomb hit a deep fly to bring in Rios and collect the easy RBI.  Rios' hot bat continued in the fifth inning when she started off with a double.  Edgecomb's single moved Rios to third and Gaither was able to bring Rios in for the Tiger's third, and final, run.  Three runs proved to be enough as Reed finished off the Lady Eagles from Judson and secured the win.

Game Two - Sophomore Bryndi-Alyn Ward started in the circle for Marion and was rewarded with a lot of offense from her teammates.  Marion took a 1-0 lead after the first inning.  Rios wallked and stole second base.  Lexi McCray doubled to score Rios.  The Lady Tigers collected two more runs in the third inning when Taylor Mitchell earned a walk.  Mitchell stole second and third to put herself into scoring position.  Rios walked to put runners on first and third for Morgan Gaither.  A deep hit to centerfield scored Mitchell and moved Rios to third.  Rios scored on the next pitch.  The Lady Tigers scored five more runs in the fourth inning off hits from Anna Claire Gresham, Taylor Mitchell, Morgan Gaither, Lexi McCray, Whitney Edgecomb, and Dalton Merrill.  They tacked on two more in the fifth and sixth innings to make the final score 12-0.
