Lady Tigers Defeat SW Mississippi CC and Holmes CC

Sophomore Amanda Ingram led the MMI softball team to an 11-1 win versus Southwest Mississippi CC in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at the plate and in the pitching circle.  Ingram (2-1) hit 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI's while scoring three runs; she also pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out four batters.  Yasmin Cottingham, Kirsten Borden, and Kaci Cohran followed with two hits each.  Cottingham had two doubles, two RBI's and scored twice.  Borden also scored twice for Marion.  Cochran recorded three RBI's and scored one run.  Also getting hits for the Lady Tigers were Lexie Green, Danielle Phillips, Megan Dockery, and Ashlyn Mangum.

Game two saw a much closer game as MMI defeated Holmes Community College 5-4.  Kirsten Borden finished with three hits in four plate appearances.  She scored once.  Amanda Ingram and Megan Dockery each had a double; Ingram also had two RBI's and scored one run.  Kaci Cochran finished with a homerun for her only hit of the game.  Lexie Green, Danielle Phillips, Yasmin Cottingham, and Abbigail Elrod also contributed with hits.  Bryndi-Alyn Ward earned the win in the circle, surrendering five hits in five innings of work.  She gave up four runs (two earned) with one walk and five strikeouts.  Ingram held Holmes scoreless in the final two innings, earning her first save of the season.

Marion will travel to East Central CC for a doublheader Tuesday afternoon.
