Softball Drops Two to Southern Union

Marion, AL. - The Lady Tigers softball team dropped a doubleheader to the visiting Lady Bisons from Southern Union State Community College Sunday afternoon, 2-6, 6-10.

Game 1 - Freshman Veronica Maresca started game one and held Southern Union scoreless in three innings of work.  Amelia Trotter scored first for Marion after walking and moving to second on a bunt by Alisea Balderaz.  She would plate the game's first run on an errant throw from a Lady Bison's infielder.

Southern Union scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead.  They added two more in the sixth before MMI added another run in the bottom half of that inning.  Kendra Larkin and Ashley Holt had back-to-back singles for the home squad to start the inning.  With two outs Trotter delivered a base hit RBI to score Larkin.

Southern Union would add one more run in the seventh to take game one 6-2.

Game 2 - Southern Union scored one run in the top of the first inning but Marion rallied in the bottom half to tie the score 1-1.  Lindsey Kelly walked and with two outs Trotter once again delivered with a double, scoring Kelly.

The Lady Bisons plated two runs in the second inning, one in the fourth, two in the sixth and sventh innings to take a 10-1 lead into the final at-bat for Marion.  Kelly reached base on an error and was awarded second base.  Trotter and Angelina Cardenas both reached on Bison errors, scoring Kelly.  Balderaz hit into a fielder's choice and scored Trotter to keep the inning alive.  Taylor Saucier and Ashlyn Mangum both singled and Larkin earned a walk to load the bases.  Holt walked to earn an RBI and cut into the SU lead.  Kelly popped out to right field for the third out and ended MMI's rally.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Decatur, Alabama Tuesday to take on Calhoun Community College for an ACCC North doubleheader.
