Softball Splits with Nationally Ranked Southern Union

Roanoke AL-  The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers (11-13, 1-1) bounced back from an 8-0 game one loss to take a 4-3 win in the nightcap over the 2014 ACCC Conference Tournament Champion, Southern Union State Community College (21-6, 1-1). 

In game one MMI was held to just 2 hits, a single by Alisea Balderaz and a double by Emily Tarango. Four costly errors doomed the MMI defense as Lindsey Savoie took the loss for the Tigers giving up one earned run and scattering six hits.  Lauren Camacho came in relief during the 4th inning and gave up one earned run on four hits. 

The Lady Tigers bounced back in game two, scoring first in the top of the second.  Alisea Balderaz led off the inning with a single to right field.  Kaitlyn Green pinch ran for Balderaz and stole second.  She then scored from second with a Ashley Holt fielder's choice to the short stop.  The Tigers put up two more runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.  Emily Tarango got a single and followed a Kennedy Harrison double.  Hayden Short then hit in Tarango with a single to left field.  Alisea Balderaz put down a squeeze to score Harrison.  The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning.  Southern Union led off with two singles and with one out, Southern Union's Heather Smart hit a 3-run homer to tie the game.  MMI answered back with a Hayden Short first pitch, solo home run to take the 4-3 lead in the top of the 7th.  Caitlynn Cooper would retire the next three batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.  Caitlynn Cooper pitched a gem scattering six hits on three earned runs while striking out four batters.
