Defensive Miscues Costly for the Lady Tigers; Split Doubleheader with Wallace-Dothan

Marion, AL. - The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers split a doubleheader with the Wallace Community College Lady Governors Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: MMI 11 Wallace CC 4 

The MMI softball team used a big second inning offensive burst to overcome being down 3-0 in the first inning.  Hayden Short got the offense started by crushing a double to left field, Alisea Balderaz Walked and Kennedy Harrison had a bunt for a hit before Ashley Holt knocked in the first run of the inning.  Annelise Borg's pinch hit scored two runs and Kathryn Clark doubled to add two more runs.  A Wallace CC error would plate one more run before the inning ended at 6-3 with the Lady Tigers in the lead. 

The Tigers added five more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning off two Lady Governor errors that followed another Kathryn Clark double and two singles by Emily Tarango and Angel Harrison

Caitlynn Cooper (2-3) picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game scattering five hits, one earned run and two strikeouts.  Kathryn Clark was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.  Emily Tarango went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Alisea Balderaz went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI.

Game 2: MMI 5 Wallace CC 7

The game was back and forth with both teams chipping in runs.  With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Hayden Short led off with her second homerun of the season to give the Lady Tigers a 5-4 edge. 

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Wallace CC had runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs.  A high fly ball to left center was dropped and two runs scored to give Dothan a one-run lead.  They would score one more unearned run before the inning ended. 

Starter Lindsey Savoie went the distance pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four earned runs off nine hits with two strikeouts and one walk.  Lauren Camacho closed the game pitching 1.1 innings. 

Kathryn Clark went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.  Emily Tarango went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Angel Harrison went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Hayden Short went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs.

The Lady Tigers (4-6) are back in action Tuesday February 17th at Judson College for a  1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
