MMI Softball Recap - Mississippi Valley State University

Itta Bena, MS. - The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers faced their first NCAA Division I opponent this fall when they travelled to the campus of Mississippi Valley State University last Friday afternoon.

The first game of the doubleheader was won by the home team, 6 to 1.  Marion's sophomore leftfielder, Emily Tarango, kept the MVSU Devilettes from scoring in the first inning by throwing out a runner at the plate to end the inning and their scoring threat.  MMI scored first in the top of the 2nd Inning after freshman Angel Harrison was walked and then moved to second base by Taylor Anderson. Kennedy Harrison singled to left field to move Angel to third.  Bailey Connor hit a fielder's choice at the second baseman to score Angel Harrison.  Kathryn Clark and Sharayah Simco also had base hits in the game.

In game two of the doubleheader the Lady Tigers finished tied with MVSU, 1 to 1. Marion scored first in the top of the 4th inning.  Angel Harrison led off the inning with a double to left field. She was moved to third base by an opposite field hit by Alisea Balderaz.  Angel then scored on a wild pitch.  Kennedy Harrison and Andie Lopez also singled in the time shortened game. Freshman pitcher, Lindsey Savoie, scattered four hits in all five innings of work.
