Lady Tigers Defeat Holmes, Lose to Hinds

Raymond, MS - The MMI Lady Tigers split a doubleheader this weekend at Hinds Community College (MS).  Marion lost 3-2 in a time-shortened game to the host school but rebounded with a win against Holmes Community College by a score of 8-1. 

In game one, sophomore pitcher Caitlynn Cooper (1-1) carried a three (3) hit shutout into the bottom of the 5th inning with her team leading 2-0. Hinds scored three runs, one unearned, off three hits to take the lead and eventual win.   MMI scored first in the top of the 2nd inning.  Freshman Sharayah Simco earned first base after being hit by a pitch.  Freshman Kaitlyn Green, pinch runner for Simco, was moved to second by a hit up the middle by freshman Ashley Holt.  With Green and Holt on 1st & 2nd and no outs, sophomore Andi Lopez scored Green on a fielders choice.  Freshman Bailey Connor also hit into a fielders choice to the pitcher which scored Holt for Marion's final run.  The game was called in top of the 6th for a time limit rule set before the game began. MMI left seven runners on base with three hits and four base on balls.

In the second game of the afternoon, MMI scored early against Holmes with two runs in the top of the 1st inning.  Sophomore Emily Tarango doubled and then reached third on a Holmes error.  Ashley Holt hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Tarango.  Angel Harrison was hit by a pitch and then moved to second by a Taylor Anderson base hit.  Kennedy Harrison hit a double scoring Angel Harrison before Anderson was tagged out at third to end the inning.  The Lady Tigers got three more runs in the top of the 4th and 5th innings. Marion finished with nine hits in the game. Tarango went 3-for-4 with two (2) doubles and one (1) RBI. Kennedy Harrison went 2-for-4 with two (2) RBIs, Bailey Connor went 3-for-3 with one (1) double and one (1) run scored.  Freshman Lindsey Savoie (2-0) got the win in the circle scattering six hits in seven innings of work.
