Softball Drops Two at Gadsden to End Season

GADSDEN, AL –The softball season came to an end for the Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers here Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader setback at the hands of Gadsden State.

MMI lost a pitchers' duel in the opener 2-1 before being blanked in the finale 7-0.

"It was a disappointing way to end the season," head coach Kristi Basso said.  "Overall, we did not do as well as we had expected.  We had a lot of young players who hopefully learned a lot from the adversity that faced them this season. One thing is for sure, this group of girls showed true heart and fight through it all."

Kalynn Allen blanked Gadsden for five innings, but a two-run sixth on a home run was all Gadsden needed.

MMI jumped to the early lead with its only run of the day in the sixth. Emily Tarango and Allen singled and Taylor Anderson reached on an error to load the bases.  Tarango scored on Ashley Strength's fielder's choice grounder.

The Lady Tigers threatened in the seventh, loading the bases on a walk to Taylor Minor and singles by Jessica Lingelback and Tarango, but they could not get the key hit to pull back on top.

Tarango's two hits led the MMI attack In the first game.

Tarango also had two hits in the nightcap, but Annelise Borg added the only other safety for MMI.

Two errors opened the gates for a four-run first and Gadsden was in control the remainder of the way.
