Lady Tigers Drop Conference Doubleheader to Calhoun

MARION, AL – The Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers got off to a rough start in conference play here Thursday, losing a pair of games to Calhoun Community College.

Calhoun jumped in front early and never trailed en route to a 9-1 win in the first game, then broke open a tie game late to claim the nightcap 5-2.

Calhoun opened the afternoon scoring three in the first and then padded its margin with two in the second, one in the third and three more in the fourth. MMI finally broke through with its only run in the fourth as Taylor Anderson doubled and scored on Rachel Gauspohl's RBI single.

The nightcap was much closer and scoreless through the first four innings before Calhoun jumped to a 2-0 lead in the fifth. The Lady Tigers, however, came right back to knot the score in their at bat as Andie Lopez and Ashley Soos walked to open the inning.  Anderson doubled home one run and Soos came across on the back end of the play to make it 2-2.

The deadlock was short lived as Calhoun quickly added three in the sixth to claim the victory.  Kalynn Allen was the only Lady Tiger with two hits in the game.
