Lady Tigers Finish 1-1 at LBW Tournament

ANDALUSIA, AL-After being held to their lowest offensive output of the season the Marion Military Institute Lady Tigers resumed their torrid slugging to salvage a split in the two games at the L.B Wallace Tournament Saturday.

MMI fell victim to Northwest Florida State College 8-1 in the opener, but backed a masterful pitching job by Lauren Camacho with an 11-hit attack, including an Ashley Soos home run, to snap a five-game losing streak with a 8-1 win over Jefferson Davis Community College in the second game of the day.

Soos had three hits, including her first homer of the season, to spark the 11-hit attack in the win. Taylor Anderson added three hits and Taylor Miner two in backing Camacho's mound performance.  Camacho pitched seven innings, scattering four hits, walking none while fanning one in notching the win.

MMI opened the scoring with Soos' solo home run in the third, then broke the game wide open with a five-run fourth. RBI doubles by Anderson and Whitney Bennett and a run-scoring single by Soos highlighted the five-run fourth. Miner and Anderson singled in the fifth with Miner scoring on a wild pitch.  The Lady Tigers concluded their scoring in the seventh as Miner singled, Rachel Gauspohl walked and Anderson singled with Miner scoring on the throw back to the infield.

The Lady Tigers never were in contention in the first game of the day as Northwest Florida scored in four separate innings to build an 8-0 lead including a three-run home run by  Kaisey Carson.  MMI fought back to score a run in the sixth as Ashley Strength doubled, Gauspohl singled with Strength scoring on a NWFSC error. Bennett, Anderson, Strength and Gauspohl accounted for the only hits in MMI's lowest offensive output of the season.

"We really bounced back in the second game," head coach Kristi Basso said. "We resumed our strong hitting, but more importantly we played really good defense. We turned in our first double play of the season and also made some diving catches to help Camacho who pitched well. We didn't play well in the first game and their home run early hurt."
