MMI Lady Tigers Split on the Road with East Mississippi Community College

SCOOBA, MS – The Marion Military Lady Tigers made an impressive showing in their second outing of the fall, dropping a heartbreaker in the opener before bouncing back in the nightcap to gain a split with powerful East Mississippi Community College.

A seventh inning error led to a 7-6 downfall in the first game, before Kalynn Allen's pitching and Taylor Anderson's two-run double sparked the Lady Tigers to a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

Allen gave up only two hits, walked none and fanned one in shutting down the EMCC offense.  A double and an error in the fifth found MMI behind 1-0, but two errors and a walk preceded Anderson's tie breaking double for a 3-1 lead. Allen retired the last seven batters she faced to seal the win.  Kallie Martin and Emily Tarango also got hits for MMI in the nightcap.

In contrast to her second game masterpiece, in the opener, Allen didn't make it out of the first inning, walking three batters and yielding a hit that led to a pair of runs. Lauren Camacho relieved and pitched the distance, scattering seven hits.

MMI's offense was sparked in the opener by Athena Sayrie and Jessie Moorhead who each had two hits.  One of Moorhead's hits was a two-run double.  Two errors and a two-out bloop single led to the winning run for the home team in the seventh, snapping a 6-6 tie.

Coach Kristi Basso said, "We showed improvement and that's what we want to see in the fall – getting better with each outing and having more confidence playing together.  We made a few errors, but got some timely hits in both games."
