Lions Shred Tigers, 8-1, in Men’s Tennis
Marion, AL—The Lions of Wallace State Community College-Hanceville swept the doubles portion of the match and surrendered only one match in singles play to knock out the Tigers of Marion Military Institute, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex.
In doubles, the Lions started off strong and won two of the matches without much of a fight from their MMI counterparts. At No. 2 doubles, Marion's Eddie Hunter and Dom Ingram didn't bring their A or B game to the match, but they hung around with their C game before losing their match, 5-8.
Singles play saw MMI take its first and only match of the afternoon. On court 2, Hunter extended the first set to a tiebreaker and then won a marathon tiebreaker, 10-8. The second set went to Wallace State, 6-2. That set up the third-set finale, which Hunter won with some wonderfully well-placed shots and some deft shot making, 6-2. Joseph Tanjuatco, Carson Johnson, and Emmanuel Warner played well throughout the afternoon but came up just short. Johnson and Warner played some of their best tennis of the season in their matches.
