Tigers Subdue Sun Chiefs, 7-2, in Men’s Tennis
Bay Minette, AL—The Tigers rolled in three of their singles matches on Monday afternoon at the Bay Minette Pool and Tennis Complex and survived two three-set scares to claim five of the six singles points. The Tigers also took care of business in doubles, winning two of the three matches played. The Tigers scored seven points, and the Sun Chiefs of Coastal Alabama Community College-South tallied two points.
In doubles play, MMI's Joseph Tanjuatco and Preston Smith overpowered Coastal Alabama's Ian May and Caleb Richardson, 8-3, and MMI's Eddie Hunter and Dom Ingram clamped down on Coastal Alabama's Cody Bonds and Patrick Waggoner, 8-3.
MMI put up three quick points in singles, with wins of surgical precision by Tanjuatco (6-1, 6-1), Hunter (6-0, 6-0), and Ingram (6-1, 6-0).
The other three singles points were more labor-intensive. Carson Johnson crawled back into his match from a 2-6 first-set debacle by taking the last two sets, 7-5, 6-0, and Emmanuel Warner split his first two sets, 6-1, 4-6, and took the third set, 6-3. Preston Smith lost in two very close sets, 6-7 (1), 5-7.
