Tigers Fall Prey to Panthers and RedHawks in Men’s Tennis
Birmingham, AL—The Marion Military Institute Tigers fought gallantly in two losing efforts on Saturday afternoon at the Ann Dielen Tennis Complex on the Birmingham-Southern College campus, losing 8-1 to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College and 7-2 to the RedHawks of Martin Methodist College.
In the first match against Birmingham-Southern, MMI's Dom Ingram defeated Hunter Hoffmeister in a well-played match at flight 4 singles. The two traded games and groundstrokes throughout the match, with Ingram coming up big in the final moments of both sets to claim the win, 6-4, 6-3. Drake DelValle, at No. 6 singles, bowed out, 4-6, 5-7, in a match that could have gone either player's way.
MMI's match with Martin Methodist College featured the athleticism of Joseph Tanjautco and Preston Smith at No. 1 doubles. Tanjuatco and Smith clung on to win the entertaining marquee matchup, 8-7 (5), against Richard Hoyle and Sergio Delgadillo. Then Tanjuatco turned around and defeated Eduardo Costa, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8), in flight 1 singles. In addition, Eddie Hunter and Dom Ingram played a strong match at No. 2 doubles; they lost a well-played contest, 5-8, to Shiazyu Kubo and Martin Cabrerra. Hunter also lost a tough match to Kubo at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 4-6.
