Tigers Roar past Lions, 8-1, in Men’s Tennis
Marion, AL—The Tigers snagged all of the tiebreakers (3 12-pointers and 1 super) on their way to an 8-1 win over the visiting Lions of Piedmont College.
Leading the way in the tiebreaker parade was the tiebreaker that decided the match at No. 2 doubles. Eddie Hunter and Dom Ingram thwarted Piedmont's bid of claiming a doubles point by staving off triple match point and tying the match at eight-all. Hunter and Ingram then pulled out the tiebreaker seven points to four.
Ingram was also involved in another tiebreaker. This time in his singles match at flight 4. Ingram won seven of the 12 points played. He ran away with the second set, 6-1.
Preston Smith split sets with Piedmont's Connor Bowles to send his match to a super tiebreaker. After playing two grinding sets of tennis, Smith was able to muster enough leg propulsion to prevent a lob from going over his head in an early point in the super tiebreaker. That pivotal point propelled Smith to a 10-3 third-set win.
The last of the tiebreakers occurred in the last match of the day when Emmanuel Warner closed out the second set of his match with Piedmont's Leo Galarza, 7-4.
